After years of waiting for something to new to follow on from the remade original trilogy, it’s time for Spyro fans to celebrate.
A brand new game in the beloved dragon-based platforming series, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2026.
There had been rumours of a new Spyro game, but it’s very nice to have this officially confirmed. Activision unleashed the first trailer at the show, and more details have arrived online since.

When is the Spyro: A Realm Beyond release date?
The Spyro: A Realm Beyond release date will occur in Spring 2027, the developers have confirmed.
This means you’ll be playing Spyro 4 in the first half of next year – if we had to guess a specific month, we’d point to April or May 2027.
The game will launch on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
As and when the official release date is confirmed, we’ll be sure to update this page with all the details.
What to expect from Spyro: A Realm Beyond
Spyro: A Realm Beyond has been described as “a brand-new game with the titular dragon at the helm” on the official Xbox Wire blog.
The blog also tells us that Toys For Bob are the company developing this new game. Returning players will recognise that name – it’s the same company that made the well-received remakes of the original trilogy.
Toys For Bob have redesigned Spyro’s visual design and added something major to his skillset – proper, unimpeded flight!
Studio head Paul Yan confirmed this to the Xbox blog, saying, “In Spyro: A Realm Beyond, Spyro will experience the freedom of true dragon flight.
“He’s small, but mighty, so we had to do a lot of different experiments to explore how he could be both nimble and still be very physical when actively pushing his way through the air.”
Yan also teased the locations of the game, noting, “We know first-hand that a big part of what makes a Spyro game really resonate is having a wide variety of colourful, whimsical spaces with activities, characters, and treasures that motivate you to explore every nook and cranny.
“In Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the sense of discovery is absolutely core to this new adventure. You got to see a little peek at the world in the announcement trailer, and I can’t wait to share more with you in time.”
