The late American chef Barbara Tropp described the texture of perfectly poached chicken breasts as ‘plush’. It should be tender and soft, not overcooked but, just as importantly, not undercooked with a bloated ‘wet’ texture. If you cook the chicken in advance, keep it in the stock in which it has been poached until you want to serve it. The herby mayonnaise shouldn’t be made too far in advance or it will be less green and fresh.  Requires 30 minutes soaking time.    Source link

Freshman Rep. Christian Menefee defeated longtime Rep. Al Green in the Democratic primary runoff in Texas’ 18th Congressional District, NBC News projects, after a rare incumbent-on-incumbent matchup sparked by Republican-led redistricting efforts. The redraw of the state’s political map pitted one of the newest members of the House Democratic caucus against one of the longer-serving incumbents in the chamber. Menefee got 46% of the primary vote to Green’s 44% in the first round March 3, pushing the race to a runoff since neither got a majority. Menefee, 38, was sworn in to Congress this year after he won a special election to replace Rep. Sylvester Turner, a Democrat who died last year. Return hubs are a controversial element in a major migration reform presented last year by the European Commission under pressure from right-wing governments around the bloc. The idea is to avoid having migrants remain in a country where they have been refused asylum for extended periods because their host country won’t readmit them or for other reasons. Setting up centers to process asylum applications outside the EU follows a similar logic — prioritizing migrants for entry whose applications have been approved. The first non-EU return hub, whose location has yet to be announced amid ongoing talks with several non-EU governments, would likely be used not just by the Netherlands but also by Greece, Germany, Austria and Denmark, all countries that have backed a push to crack down on migration into the EU. The Netherlands is working with Denmark, Malta and Sweden on options for processing asylum applications outside Europe, per an EU diplomat who was granted anonymity to discuss the plans.
