Who are the main contenders to replace Keir Starmer as prime minister?

It has become a given in Westminster circles that Keir Starmer’s tenure as prime minister could be nearing its end. This is because, fairly or unfairly, the UK public have made up their minds – and they do not like him. Labour MPs know this all too well, having seen the level of animosity on the doorstep during recent election campaigns in England, Wales and Scotland. They just didn’t immediately know what to do about it. But then Wes Streeting quit as health secretary, criticising Starmer in his resignation letter for what he said was a “vacuum” where political vision was required. Recent UK history is full of precedents when prime ministers found their position untenable. For the Conservatives, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss were all removed eventually. But such a course of action comes with costs: to party unity, to market sentiment, and in terms of how the voters view political shenanigans. This is why, until now, the more thoughtful voices in the Labour party either kept their counsel or argued for …

MP Who Fired Starting Gun On Race To Replace Starmer Bizarrely Says She Would Still Vote For PM

Prime Minister Keir Starmer meets construction apprentices during a visit to London South Bank Technical College in London, Tuesday, May 12, 2026.  The Labour MP who effectively pulled the plug on Keir Starmer’s premiership has now suggested she could still end up backing him to stay on as prime minister. Catherine West announced last Saturday that she would run as a “stalking horse” in a leadership challenge to the prime minister in response to the party’s horrendous performance in last week’s elections. The former Foreign Office minister said she planned to gather the required 81 Labour MPs’ names to formally challenge Starmer. After Starmer vowed not to “walk away” from Downing Street in his make-or-break speech on Monday, she then decided to collect names of Labour MPs who would agree to set a timetable for the election of a new leader by September. But her efforts were overtaken as ministers started to resign, putting more direct pressure on the prime minister. Speaking after health secretary Wes Streeting dramatically resigned on Thursday, West then bizarrely claimed …

Don’t replace your wireless earbuds yet — try this fix first

Don’t replace your wireless earbuds yet — try this $1 fix first

Whether you use Apple’s AirPods, Google’s Pixel Buds, the wireless earbuds from Nothing, or any other earbuds (and you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get great sound), you might have noticed a decrease in audio fidelity or volume over time (and you might want to consider setting up a proper EQ for your headphones or change your Spotify settings), and maybe your buds don’t charge as fast as they used to from the charging case. This often happens because the buds accumulate wax and grease on the speaker mesh (which affects sound quality and volume) while also reducing charging speed when the little charging contacts on your buds and charging case get dirty. With proper cleaning with cheap household cleaning items, you can restore the full sound quality and charging speed of your earbuds if you are a little bit strategic about what you clean, and here’s how. Related I’ve reviewed dozens of wireless earbuds, and this is my go-to pair I have reviewed dozens of wireless earbuds in the past …

Exclusive: Former Labour Minister Calls For Andy Burnham To Replace Keir Starmer

Exclusive: Former Labour Minister Calls For Andy Burnham To Replace Keir Starmer

Andy Burnham the Mayor of Manchester arrives a fringe meeting during the annual Labour Party conference in Liverpool, England, Monday, Sept. 29, 2025.  A former Labour minister has called for Andy Burnham to replace Keir Starmer as prime minister. Lord Dave Watts said the party should allow the Greater Manchester mayor to return to Westminster in a by-election, which would then pave the way for a leadership challenge. Watts was a government whip under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and also chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) from 2012 until 2015. His intervention came as Labour braced for a catastrophic set of results in elections across England and in Scotland and Wales. The party is on course to lose more than 1,000 English councillors, and be resoundingly defeated in the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Senedd. Writing for HuffPost UK, Lord Watts said: “The leadership question must be confronted head-on and without further delay. “Does Keir Starmer possess the qualities required to steer the country through these turbulent times and reconnect with a disillusioned electorate? On …

Ouster’s new color lidar is coming to replace cameras

Ouster’s new color lidar is coming to replace cameras

The tech industry has spent the last decade asking whether self-driving cars need lidar sensors, cameras, or all of the above. Lidar company Ouster says it has a new answer: put them both in the same sensor. On Monday, the San Francisco-based company announced a new lineup of lidar sensors it calls “Rev8,” all of which offer so-called “native color lidar.” These sensors are capable of capturing color imagery and three-dimensional depth information at the same time, doing the work of two sensors in one. Ouster CEO Angus Pacala said the development has been a decade in the making at his company, and he wasn’t shy about his ambitions for the new product lineup in an exclusive interview with TechCrunch, calling it the “holy grail of what a roboticist has always wanted.” “For all of human history, it’s been: you buy a lidar sensor, you buy a camera, and you try to make sense of the combination with some higher level reasoning, and waste an enormous amount of time doing this,” he told TechCrunch. “And …

Audacy’s KNX will replace news on 97.1 FM with a sports talk format

Audacy’s KNX will replace news on 97.1 FM with a sports talk format

Audacy’s Los Angeles news radio station KNX is ending its simulcast on 97.1 FM, which will move to a sports talk format on May 11. The New York-based audio company announced Tuesday that the frequency will be re-branded as the Fan, becoming the first all-sports FM station in the Los Angeles market. Sports talk listeners are currently served by KLAC, an AM station co-owned by iHeartRadio and the Dodgers, ESPN LA 710, and KLAA at 830 AM, owned by the Los Angeles Angels. KNX will continue its all-news format on its AM frequency 1070. The station will also be heard on 97.1 HD2, mostly available in vehicles equipped with digital radios. Chris Oliviero, chief business officer for Audacy, said the moves are aimed at providing more local content to listeners in the Los Angeles market. The Fan will be stocked with on-air talent well-versed in the area’s teams. “We’re going to be providing twice as much original local L.A. content than we were previously,” Oliviero said. “We are taking these two broadcast frequencies, and getting …

I didn’t expect Microsoft Edge to replace 3 apps I use daily

I didn’t expect Microsoft Edge to replace 3 apps I use daily

After using Arc as my default browser on my Mac for over three years, I recently shifted to Microsoft Edge. I chose Edge because it seemed to offer a clean browsing experience on Mac and support for Chrome extensions. I have already been using Edge on Android, and the experience was pretty great! So, I thought it would be nice to have the same browser on my Mac as well. A couple of weeks into the shift, I am happy with what Edge offers. There was a surprise, though. I knew Edge had a number of great features, but I didn’t expect them to almost replace standalone apps on my Mac. Given that most of my work is done in a web browser, the following Microsoft Edge features have been a game-changer. Related 4 Microsoft Edge Features I Wish Google Chrome Had Chrome is great, but I don’t always want to download extensions to get useful functionality I can find elsewhere. Edge’s built-in reader quietly took over my documents I stopped opening PDF apps after …

I bought a desk gadget on a whim and now it’s the one thing I’d never replace

I bought a desk gadget on a whim and now it’s the one thing I’d never replace

Between 2 coffee cups, a water bottle, a few devices I’m testing, a tripod, a sunset lamp, my laptop and iPad, and a bunch of charging cables to fuel up all these devices (the coffee and water fuel me, thankfully), my desk is always a mess. Now, most of these I’m fine with. A messy desk is a lived-in desk, whatever. However, the cables were a different kind of mess. Turns out, all I needed was one gadget to fix it (and it’s now the one thing on this messy desk I’d never replace). Baseus’s Nomos II solved the only part of my desk I actually hated The cables had to go As I mentioned above, cables scattered all over my desk is the one thing that genuinely bothered me. Not only were they visually unappealing and made my desk look significantly messier than it was, but I’d unplug one thing, and two other things would come with it. There would also be times when I wouldn’t have enough cables to power up all my …
