Blank Street cafe chain opens location in Studio City

p]:text-cms-story-body-color-text”> After months of anticipation, Blank Street opened its first Los Angeles location in Studio City on Aug. 12. Launched as a coffee cart in Brooklyn in 2020 by former tech entrepreneurs Vinay Menda and Issam Freiha, the venture capital-backed cafe chain has since grown to more than 100 locations around the world. The company announced its West Coast debut in April, with locations in Studio City and Beverly Hills originally slated to open in June. While the Beverly Hills outpost is still forthcoming, the Studio City location was quick to draw lines. On Tuesday morning, dozens queued up, sometimes wrapping around the shop’s interior. “The End of Oak Street” does pastiche right

“The End of Oak Street” does pastiche right

In 2015’s “Jurassic World” — the first of the “Jurassic Park” franchise’s largely interminable bastard step-children — there’s a moment of action that briefly suggests the film might exist for reasons other than to extend its source material and make oodles of cash. In the scene, which occurs just as things fall apart (as they always seem to do in these films), dinosaurs break loose and attack all of the theme park’s patrons.  In the ensuing chaos, a woman is snatched up by a flying Pteranodon and swooped into the air, where others of its species take turns throwing her between their beaks. She’s then dropped into the water, where the winged creatures swarm her once more. Just as the dinosaurs pluck her out of the depths, a Mosasaurus leaps from the water and swallows both the woman and the dino attacking her. It’s downright cruel and undeniably entertaining. But namely, this sequence of dino-terror suggests that “Jurassic World” might actually provide audiences something they’d sorely lack for the next decade: fun.  That was, of …

Coronation Street airs dark Idris Nazir and Brody Michaelis twist

Idris Nazir’s (Junade Khan) true colours have been revealed in Coronation Street. We’ve already seen his darker side before, but in today’s (19 August) episode, he reached new heights. Desperate to get his hands on the family restaurant, Speed Daal, Idris asked chef Ollie Driscoll (Raphael Akuwudike) to join in his secret, after-hours poker game – knowing that he had history of winning. His involvement came with a promise that he’d also get a slice of the profits, and an assurance that the odds would be in his favour. Idris’s niece Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) had already handed him the restaurant keys, following the promise that the money she was owed in exchange for the business would be paid back imminently. Raphael Akuwudike as Ollie Driscoll and Sara Poyzer as Fiona Morley. ITV As Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) and Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) prepped the eatery for the poker evening, she overheard Idris briefing Ollie on what was expected of him. Concerned about the consequences, she warned him that he would face serious repercussions if anyone …

Coronation Street airs violent prison scenes for Sarah Platt

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) has been placed in a horrific situation in Coronation Street. If being banged up in Norcross nick for murdering Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) wasn’t bad enough, she now has a fellow prisoner baying for her blood. Earlier this week, fearsome Kacey (Emma Matthews) asked a huge favour from Sarah in exchange for protection from other inmates. She revealed that her son had been arrested for armed robbery, and wanted Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) to intervene and get the case dropped. Sarah nervously explained that she and Kit were no longer together – and Kacey didn’t receive the news very well. As viewers know, the reason they separated was to ensure that she was never placed in such a predicament. During a visit with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Sarah spoke of her fear and stressed that she was far too embarrassed to ask Kit for help. Despite requesting that he stayed out of her drama, Todd opened up to Kit in today’s (18 August) episode. Tina O’Brien as Sarah Platt and Jacob …

Another dramatic week in Weatherfield lies ahead in Coronation Street. For The Driscolls, poor Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) misreads a situation involving Jake Windass (Bobby Bradshaw) and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), which leads to him pinning the teen to the ground.
