Channel 4 tipped to axe raunchy reality series Open House

Open House: The Great Sex Experiment reportedly may not return to Channel 4 for a fourth season.

The raunchy series followed committed couples at a luxury retreated where they tested whether opening up their relationships and having sex with other people would strengthen their bond.

It first debuted in April 2022, before returning for a second season in 2023 and a third last year.

A source told The Sun: “This was a programme that typified C4’s unconventional approach to making television, and nobody could say it wasn’t truly experimental.

“But despite some initial interest, it wasn’t enough to engage viewers long-term and the ratings quickly trailed off. C4 insists it has not made a decision on its return yet — but there is no sign of it coming back. Plus, the channel has already been exploring sexuality in other ways.”

Radio Times has approached Channel 4 for comment.

Channel 4 is no stranger to releasing raunchy programmes, with Virgin Island being a recent success for the broadcaster.

The second season – which follows young people as they head to retreat in search of breaking down their emotional barriers and learn the ways of intimacy – aired earlier this year.

The series was a huge success for Channel 4, with the first season becoming a ratings hit for the broadcaster, breaking records among 16-to-34-year-olds.

The series as a whole was Channel 4’s biggest streaming hit of 2025.

Open House: The Great Experiment is available to watch on Channel 4 streaming.

I studied medicine in Brighton and qualified as a doctor and for the last 2 years been writing blogs. While there are are many excellent blogs devoted to the topics of faith, humanism, atheism, political viewpoints, and wider kinds of rationalism and philosophical doubt, those are not the only focus here.Im going to blog about what ever comes to my mind in a day.
