Craig Melvin drops Devil Wears Prada 2 spoiler in on-air slip-up

Craig Melvin drops Devil Wears Prada 2 spoiler in on-air slip-up

Today show host Craig Melvin accidentally let it slip on air that his co-anchor Jenna Bush Hager is making a surprise cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

During Wednesday’s segment, the anchors were discussing the highly anticipated release of the forthcoming sequel, starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

“By the way, you know how that movie’s going to be good?” Melvin, 46, asked. “You know how I can tell? JBH is in it!”

Cameras immediately cut to a baffled Hager. “I don’t know that you were supposed to drop that bomb,” she responded.

Co-host Savannah Guthrie, who returned Monday after an extended leave following the disappearance of her mother, laughed: “This is live. You cannot tell Craig anything!”

“I thought it was common knowledge?” Melvin replied, with weatherman Al Roker quipping: “It is now!”

“Cut it out for the other feeds!” Melvin begged. “Sorry about that JBH.”

“Why don’t you read your journal while you’re at it?” Guthrie teased, as Melvin simply replied: “My bad!”

It is not yet known what role Hager, 44, will have in the movie, which premieres in theaters May 1. She is not the only high-profile name set to make an unexpected cameo — pop star Lady Gaga was spotted on set last October, suggesting she also has a secret appearance.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes 10 years after the critically acclaimed original, which follows recent college graduate Andy Sachs (Hathaway), who lands a job as the personal assistant to diabolical fashion editor Miranda Priestly (Streep).

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, who had been Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s assistant.

Newcomers to the franchise include Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley.

The belated sequel will see Miranda go to war with her former assistant-turned-rival executive, Emily (Blunt), over advertising revenue in a shrinking print media landscape.

While much of the movie’s storyline is being kept tightly under wraps, a new trailer appeared to reveal further plot details.

In the clip released over the weekend, Miranda appears to have been involved in a high-profile scandal, which has left her the subject of derisive memes on the internet.

One meme of Miranda appears to be taken from a screenshot of a scene in the first The Devil Wears Prada film—something that wouldn’t exist within the movie’s own universe. This bizarre detail has left some fans worried about what it could signal for the sequel’s quality.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 premieres in theaters May 1.
