Jack Schlossberg Says Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette is “Capital F for Fiction”

So far, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette is one of the most talked-about shows of 2026. The nine-episode show tackles the tumultuous romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which gripped America in the ’90s and left the nation in mourning when the pair died in a plane crash. Yet Ryan Murphy’s newest show is not to everyone’s taste. Among its detractors is Jack Schlossberg, John F. Kennedy Jr.’s nephew, who spoke out against the show on CBS Sunday Morning over the weekend.

“Well, if you want to know someone who’s never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy,” Schlossberg said during the interview. As far as he’s concerned, this series, though inspired by real events, is a million miles from reality. “I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind, and that’s a capital F for fiction. The guy knows nothing about what he’s talking about, and he’s making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else’s life.”

The 33-year-old politician believes that the series illustrates a broader current issue, caused by the resurgence of public interest in the Kennedy clan and its misfortunes. “I think in the last two or three years, partly because of [Robert F. Kennedy Jr.], but also because Donald Trump has used JFK as a kind of human punching bag, both by renaming the Kennedy Center in his honor, by conducting a false investigation into the assassination and dismantling all the programs he fought for, there’s now a lot of misinformation and iconography being used about the Kennedy family, my family, at a time when we really can’t afford to confuse people.”

Schlossberg, who is currently running for Congress, added that he wants the focus elsewhere. “We really need to put all our energy into trying to make things better,” he said. “So, if Ryan Murphy really cares that much about the Kennedy family, about my Uncle John, maybe he would try to do something to oust Trump from power.”

Last summer, President John F. Kennedy’s only grandson distanced himself from the series. ““For those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with the new show being made about him, the answer is no, and there’s really not much we can do,” he wrote on Instagram. “I think admiration for my Uncle John is a good thing. What I don’t think is right is taking advantage of it in a grotesque way.” And he hopes that “take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it.”
