John Travolta wears many metaphorical hats. He’s an Academy Award-nominated actor, a producer, a singer, and a licensed pilot. Now, the 72-year-old is adding director to his resume, making his directorial debut with Propeller One-Way Night Coach at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival this week. He is also now wearing many literal hats.
As he made his way down the Cannes red carpet on Friday, the Pulp Fiction star arrived in an ivory-colored wool beret, befitting the French Riviera backdrop. ( He paired his choice of headwear with circular dark-wired frames and a three-piece black suit. The beret seems to be a new signature for Travolta, who was awarded an honorary Palme d’Or at this year’s festival. In a new Instagram video, the actor shows that he piloted his own plane to Cannes with his daughter, 26-year-old Ella Bleu Travolta, who co-stars in her father’s film that is based on a children’s book he wrote in 1997. In the clip, Travolta can be seen wearing an askew navy beret with a matching suede jacket set as he sits in the cockpit. On Saturday, he posed in an all-black ensemble with a matching chapeau.
The internet swiftly responded to Travolta’s new look, which drew some comparisons to rapper Jack Harlow, who has also been sporting some choice headwear as of late. On X, one user pointed out that Sir Anthony Hopkins recently wore a beret-like driver cap, noting, “Every actor chose today to debut their new hat.”
