The Princess of Wales looked truly spectacular on 22 February as she arrived at London’s Royal Festival Hall for the 79th British Academy Film Awards. Attending alongside Prince William, the President of BAFTA, for the first time in three years, Kate, 44, oozed style and sophistication in a Gucci gown from 2019.

Kate’s dress featured a soft mauve and pink colour palette with a cinched waistline, shoulder-grazing V-neck bodice, and the floatiest skirt. The sheer number was accessorised to perfection with a burgundy velvet clutch bag to match the waistline of her dress and killer heels.

Meanwhile, the princess wore her tumbling brunette locks in loose waves. Her makeup look completed her red carpet moment beautifully. She opted for her classic warm brown smokey eye and a wash of rosy lipstick.

Kate previously wore the exact gown in 2019 as she stepped out at the V&A Museum for a gala dinner in aid of ‘Mentally Healthy Schools’ as Patron of 100 Women in Finance’s Philanthropic Initiatives.

Princess Kate’s epic BAFTAs repertoire

The BAFTAs are an occasion that Kate always shines at, as it is one of the rare times that she steps out among A-list movie stars on a red carpet. Her fashion always turns heads. “The Princess of Wales’ BAFTA appearances are where her signature style truly comes to life – a perfect expression of elegance, chic simplicity, and her natural ease with fashion,” fashion stylist Sian Clarke of Styled by Sian tells us.

“Her timeless approach centres around beautifully tailored gowns that are fitted through the bodice and softly flow through the skirt – a silhouette she returns to time and again because it works so effortlessly for her frame. Open necklines highlight her delicate features, while subtly nipped-in waists enhance her shape without ever feeling overdone.”

Sian adds: “She consistently favours long, flowing ballgowns that move with grace, creating a sense of quiet drama rather than statement excess. Each look is completed with thoughtfully chosen accessories which elevate rather than compete.

“Year after year, this is where her style shines brightest: calm, composed, and unmistakably elegant. It’s a space she understands completely, and she does it phenomenally well.”

Princess Kate’s BAFTAs looks

The princess first attended the ceremony in 2017, and made an appearance every year until 2024, bar in 2021 and 2022 when the awards were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2024, Kate was recovering from planned abdominal surgery and was absent again in 2025, making her return this year all the more exciting for royal fans.

We have to start with her debut. Here, Kate wore an off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown featuring a fitted bodice and tiered skirt. She wore her hair up, revealing a pair of statement diamond and morganite chandelier earrings.

In 2019, the royal opted for a fabulous asymmetrical number. She once again opted for an Alexander McQueen number, this time featuring a flower-adorned one-shoulder detail and floaty skirt. Her earrings were extra special as they came from Princess Diana’s collection.

A year later, Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress from her 2012 tour of Southeast Asia to honour Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. It was custom-made by her bridal designer, Sarah Burton, and was styled with jewellery courtesy of Van Cleef & Arpels’ ‘Magic Alhambra’ collection.

Returning to the BAFTAs after a two-year hiatus, Kate chose to recycle her Alexander McQueen dress from 2019. However, on this occasion, she removed the flower detailing and added a draped tie over one shoulder. She also wore elbow-length gloves and dramatic Zara earrings.
