The Princess of Wales made a solo appearance at Anzac Day on Saturday, honouring all Australians and New Zealanders who have lost their lives in conflict and to recognise all those who have served.
While Kate made a poised appearance at the event, there may be one detail royal fans missed. While laying a wreath on behalf of her father-in-law, the King, Kate attached a personal message which read: “In memory of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” signing the message, Catherine ahead of her husband, Prince William’s signature.
Catherine signing her name first is something we rarely see, but it’s likely she signed the message this way as she was there on behalf of the Wales family.
Another interesting detail is that, as previously mentioned, Kate was actually laying the wreath on behalf of King Charles, so it’s interesting that the message was not signed from His Majesty.
Perfectly poised Kate
Kate made a sombre appearance at the event, dressed in an elegant navy blue coat as she arrived at the Cenotaph in central London to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony and parade.
The long coat stopped just shy of her ankles and featured stitched pocket detailing. The tailored garment was complemented by a pair of simple matching navy stiletto heels and a bright red poppy Kate had fastened to her left lapel.
The future Queen was not joined by other members of the royal family, although Princess Anne had attended the dawn service at Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner, in the early hours of the morning.
After she laid her wreath, Kate walked to Westminster Abbey, where she also attended the service of commemoration and thanksgiving.
Documenting the day on the official social media channels for the royal family, were the words: “Today is #ANZACDAY – which honours the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.”
Fans weighed in on the emotional day in the comments section, and couldn’t help but heap praise on the royal. “Gorgeous classy and elegant—as always!” one fan commented.
A second added, “I’m so proud of our future King and Queen, such respect.” Meanwhile, another replied: “There’s just no words for this one!!! What an incredible Queen you will be and I can’t wait to see that day come.”
