TODAY’s Sheinelle Jones announces ‘stressful’ family change one year after husband’s death

Sheinelle Jones is embarking on a new chapter with her kids.

The TODAY anchor has revealed that she is officially moving out of the home she shared with late husband Uche Ojeh, who died in May 2025, aged 45, after a battle with glioblastoma.

The couple were parents to three kids, son Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13.

Sheinelle shared the news on the Thursday, May 14 installment of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, revealing that in the process of clearing out her house, she almost threw out her wedding dress from her 2007 wedding to Uche.

“I’m moving,” she said, explaining: “The kids are going to a new school, so we’re moving. I have been going through boxes and boxes and boxes in our basement,” as co-anchor Jenna Bush Hager noted moving is one of the most “stressful” things one can do, and Sheinelle quipped back: “As if I need more stress.”

She added that there are still piles of boxes she has barely tended to from when she first moved her family from Philadelphia to New York, in 2014, when she became a TODAY anchor.

“I started, after a while, not even wanting to look through boxes,” she explained, noting that her babysitter was helping her go through everything. “I’m like, ‘Just throw it out. If I haven’t seen it in five years, just throw it out.’ And she’s like, ‘No, Sheinelle. We’ve got to go through everything.'”

Among those things she narrowly avoided? Impulsively, and inadvertently, throwing out her wedding dress. Further sharing how her babysitter asked her if she knew where her wedding dress was, she continued: “I’m like, ‘No.’ I was like, ‘It might be at my mom’s.’ I just didn’t know where my wedding dress was.'”

“So look what happened. I found this old suitcase and I unzipped it, and it was my wedding dress,” she went on, sharing a photo of her wearing a KN95 mask and gloves while pulling the voluminous white dress out of the suitcase.

Sheinelle noted that she never got the dress preserved as everyone had suggested she do, and that much of the hem is dirty after having taken pictures on the Philadelphia streets, but she does see the dress “differently” now, since her husband’s dress.

Sheinelle and Uche were married for close to 20 years. They met when she was a freshman at Northwestern University, and Uche was a visiting high school senior touring the school. Recalling the moment while speaking with Northwestern’s campus magazine in 2024, she said: “I was a fake tour guide … I was just walking to class.”

“[I was like, ‘Are you guys lost?’ And] I told him I would take him around because he was cute. I was like, ‘This is the Black House. … This is the Plex (aka Foster-Walker Complex), and if you need real tidbits, I’m probably not the one,'” she added. The two graduated a year apart, and after eight years of doing long distance, Uche proposed along the Northwestern lakefront.
