The first Sunday of October means one thing in the racing calendar: a visit to ParisLongchamp Racecourse for the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe.
The €5 million prize fund makes it Europe’s richest flat race and a field of the finest middle-distance runners will tear around the 1 mile, 4-furlong course in pursuit of the largest share.
The 105th edition will be particularly special as it is the last year before the restriction to omit geldings (a male horse that has been castrated and is seen as easier to train) is lifted.
As a result, the horse and rider that cross the finish line this year will earn their place in the history books.
Last year’s winner Daryz is the heavy favourite with the bookies, with Maltese Cross, Diamond Necklace and Kalpana among those expected to challenge.
