Frances Bean Cobain has returned to the red carpet after eight years away from the spotlight.
The 34-year-old daughter of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love attended a Tuesday night Los Angeles screening of the action film The Deputy. She is listed as an executive producer for the movie, according to IMDb.
Frances, a model and artist, posed for the cameras wearing a brown leather jacket, a ripped grungy T-shirt, black shorts and a pair of knee-length white boots.
The model was last pictured at a public event in the front row of the Moschino Spring/Summer 20 fashion show in June 2019. The last time she made an appearance at a red carpet event was in 2018.
Frances is married to Riley Hawk, son of pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk. She gave birth to their son, Ronin, in 2024.
The model recently celebrated Ronin’s second birthday with a series of Instagram pictures showing her toddler’s bright blonde hair.
She captioned the pictures: “Happy 2nd birthday to this sweet potato fanatic, free wheeling, adrenaline seeking, nature loving, wind in the willows, sunshine boy!! Once a day Riley & I look over at each other to say ‘I can’t believe we made him.’”
She added: “I would live through every hard thing 1,000 times again, knowing it all lead to a present, loving life with this kid. Thank the universe he is here.”
In 2024, Frances shared a statement on the 30th anniversary of her father’s death. Cobain died by suicide April 5, 1994 aged 27.
“30 years ago my dad’s life ended,” Frances wrote on Instagram at the time. “The 2nd & 3rd photo capture the last time we were together while he was still alive.”
She continued, “His mom Wendy would often press my hands to her cheeks & say, with a lulling sadness, ‘you have his hands’. She would breathe them in as if it were her only chance to hold him just a little bit closer, frozen in time. I hope she’s holding his hands wherever they are.”
The model said she had been “grieving for as long as I’ve been conscious” and that her ideas around loss have “been in a continuous state of metamorphosing” throughout her life.
“The duality of life & death, pain & joy, yin & yang, need to exist along side each other or none of this would have any meaning. It is the impermanent nature of human existence which throws us into the depths of our most authentic lives,” she said. “As It turns out, there is no greater motivation for leaning into loving awareness than knowing everything ends.”
