Soap fans, there’s some bad news. Sports coverage is about to disrupt scheduled editions of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The soaps usually air in what ITV dub as “power hour”, each weekday evening at 8pm. This new time slot was introduced to provide consistency and to help navigate the disruption that the footy causes annually. However, since then, both serial dramas have been repeatedly shifted to accommodate other programmes. Today (Wednesday 12 August) is no exception, as the broadcaster will air coverage of the Manchester United v Leeds United pre-season friendly match from 7pm. Kick-off at the Croke Park in Dublin is at 7.30pm with analysis from John O’Shea and Michael Brown. ITV has unveiled a new conceptual trailer for Emmerdale ahead of the much-anticipated wedding of Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) later this month. It’s already been a dramatic few weeks for the characters, with Joe becoming aware of her brief kiss with ex-hubby Billy (Jay Kontzle). He was reluctant to believe that she’d betray him, and just hours later, Billy was brutally attacked and placed into a coma. We’re still yet to find out who was responsible, though Joe has been allowed to leave the police station.
