Tom Hardy’s “captivating” crime thriller branded a “must-see” is on TV tonight


If you’re looking to add a bit of excitement to your Monday, then you’re in luck as Tom Hardy‘s “captivating” crime thriller The Drop is on TV tonight (30 March).

The movie, which was released back in 2014, will be airing on Film4 at 10.50pm.

Set in Brooklyn, The Drop follows quiet barman Bob Saginowski (Hardy), whose establishment is frequently used by the mafia to conduct their shady deals.

Bob finds himself in the middle of a dangerous investigation when the bar gets robbed by masked intruders one day. With the angry mobsters breathing down his neck, how far will Bob go to recover the stolen money?

Directed by Michaël R Roskam, the thriller stars Jack Ryan’s Noomi Rapace, The Danish Girl’s Matthias Schoenaerts, Fast & Furious’ John Ortiz and Orange Is the New Black’s Elizabeth Rodriguez.

The Sopranos’ James Gandolfini also appears posthumously, as The Drop was released following his death in 2013.

As well as airing on TV, The Drop is also available to watch at any time on Disney+. Subscriptions for the streaming service start from £4.99 per month.

Despite being over a decade old, The Drop currently boasts an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 198 reviews. Critics praised the impressive performance and strong storytelling, with The Guardian calling it a ” gripping drama”.

Meanwhile, over on IMDB, one user described the movie as “intelligent” and “captivating”, with a “dark and melancholic atmosphere”.

Another branded it a “must-see”, adding: “Tom Hardy is magnificent as Bob – totally American; he is truly film’s male chameleon, believable as a quiet bartender who tries to stay out of the way.”

The Drop airs tonight at 10.50pm on Film4 and streams on Disney+.
