Gwen Stefani’s ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, shared unexpected insight into the duo’s parenting dynamic following their split in 2015. The duo were married for 13 years and welcomed three sons together before they went their separate ways amid allegations of infidelity.
The Bush frontman explained his current relationship with Gwen in an interview with Fox News Digital, and revealed that they parent their kids Kingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12, differently to each other.
“It is an interesting kind of [relationship],” Gavin said. “It’s a two-lane highway, you know, but they don’t ever seem to merge, which is fine.”
“[She’s] probably doing the best she can, and I’m doing the best I can,” he continued. “And the kids are growing up, so I’m a proud proponent of the system.”
The 60-year-old added that he was focused on raising his sons to be kind and considerate, especially as the children of two famous people.
“I think that if you’ve got kids that are unlikable, they’ve got a tough life ahead, you know,” he shared. “Life is hard enough without being a jerk, without being kind of aware of other people, mindful of other people, considerate of other people, empathetic.”
“And so all those things that I try to do my best in my life to be…Just try to show by example with my kids, consistent friends, consistent people around and a sort of a steady approach to life.”

Gavin, who was married to Gwen from 2002 until 2015, previously shared his thoughts on their co-parenting styles on the Not So Hollywood podcast in 2023.
“You can either do everything together and really co-parent and see how that goes, or you can just parent,” he explained. “And I think we just parent.”
“We’re really different people,” Gavin continued. “I don’t think there’s much similarity in the way we bring them up, but I think that gives them an incredible perspective to then choose which pieces of those two lives they’d like to inherit and move on with and which part of themselves come out of the whole process.”
While Gwen’s current husband, country music star Blake Shelton, has no children of his own, the singer quickly became a loving stepfather to her three boys. “I’ve had stepparents. I think, in some ways, it’s more difficult,” he told Today. “I try to be careful about when to step in and be smart about when to step back, but no matter what, always be there if I’m needed.”
Blake and Gwen met while starring as judges on The Voice, and went on to tie the knot in July 2021 at his ranch in Oklahoma. He was previously married to country star Miranda Lambert, whom he split from in 2015.
