The Princess of Wales is said to be“delighted” at the prospect of traveling to India. “The fact that she’s planning to go to India is such a huge milestone, not only for her, but for the couple together. It will be almost four years since they travelled to Boston together to attend the Earthshot Awards, and even longer since they took on their major royal tour of the Caribbean,” said Russell Myers, a royals editor for the Mirror. “The secret to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage is support for one another throughout their roles as working royals and as parents to their three young children,” he continued. “Everything they do is in tandem and this includes Catherine being the catalyst for William launching the Earthshot Prize, when he doubted it could become the global success it has.”
Prince William had revealed the Earthshot Prize’s next destination last February. “This country is a global technology leader; it’s home to 8% of the world’s biodiversity,” he said in a short video shared on Instagram. “It’s the world’s fastest-growing major climate with the largest population of young people in the world. And it’s home to more Earthshot Prize finalists and winners than any other country on the planet.”
If Kate Middleton is indeed joining the trip, this will be the couple’s first (official) joint trip abroad in more than three years. In June 2023, the Prince and Princess of Wales flew to Amman, Jordan, to attend the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and his fiancée, Rajwa. Their last royal tour took place in the spring of 2022. Still holding the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the time, they traveled through South America, from Belize to the Bahamas via Jamaica. The trip was undertaken on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The Mirror reports that the trip by King Charles III’s son and daughter-in-law could, in addition to its environmental significance, have a diplomatic aspect, with time spent in Delhi at the request of the British government. It was at the British government’s request that they had previously visited India, exactly ten years ago. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had made various visits to Mumbai and then New Delhi before traveling to neighboring Bhutan to meet with King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema. The couple then headed back to India, specifically to Agra in the north of the country, to visit (and pose in front of) the Taj Mahal.
