The loved ones of a mum in a coma in the Canary Islands have urged her to wake up so she can get back home to her children. Emily Casey, 34 and of Rock Ferry, was taken ill just three days after she had flown out to Gran Canaria with her husband Jamie Casey and their five children.
Emily, who had recently recovered from pneumonia, had struggled to breathe and was rushed to hospital where an emergency CT scan was done. They were told the pneumonia had returned and one of her lungs was “full of fluid”, which would need to be drained.
Jamie returned to the family’s hotel with the children, but when he returned to hospital the following day he devastatingly found his wife was in an induced coma on a life support machine.
After taking the children back to England he returned to the Spanish island but was told on Saturday how his wife’s progress had “gone backwards”. Scans revealed pneumonia has “taken over her lungs again” and sepsis is now in her bloodstream.
After the ECHO raised awareness of Emily’s ongoing battle her loved ones and well-meaning strangers shared a series of public messages urging her to find the strength to come back home.
Tricia Casey said: “My girl. We all love you, come on hun. I know you’re a fighter.”
Joyce Jones said: “We just need to get my niece home to her kids and hubby.” Sasha Neagle replied: “Praying for her Joyce, praying to hear some good changes today. Come on Em, please show them you [have] got this.”
Gemma Magee said: “My beautiful cousin. Let’s get her home to her babies and husband.” Aliesha Jodie said: “Come on Em. We’re all waiting for you to wake up. We need you home,” while Colin Jones added: “Come on Em. Thinking of you, Jay and the kids. They need you.”
Shannon Alexander wrote: “Get well soon. Fingers crossed you get home to your babies ASAP.” Madison-May Randles said: “Come on Em. We love you. We need you to wake up so we can get you home.”
Emily’s family said the stricken mum had insurance but because she did not declare she had recently had pneumonia there are fears her policy could be void.
Husband Jamie has created a GoFundMe page to try and raise funds due to fears that the medical bills that are fast racking up will not be covered by the insurance.
He wrote: “This is why I’m desperately turning to the help and generosity of family, friends and the general public to help bring my wife Emily home. I thank you all from the bottom of mine and our children’s hearts for any donations you can make during this difficult time no matter how big or small.”
