Coronation Street confirms casting of new character linked to Megan Walsh

Coronation Street confirms casting of new character linked to Megan Walsh

A new character is joining Coronation Street as part of the ongoing grooming storyline between Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) and Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale).

Over the past few months, Megan has groomed her student Will Driscoll, and even fell pregnant with his baby. She and Will then bullied Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) into staying silent, though he eventually went to the police and she was arrested.

At the time, there wasn’t enough evidence to charge her, until Will finally decided to talk about their relationship and was taken into custody.

News then reached the cobbles that Megan had been released and in recent scenes, she attempted to make contact with Will.

It was reported last month that Nixon will bow out of the soap, with details of her exit storyline yet to be confirmed. But there is more to come in the storyline, as it has been confirmed that Megan’s mother Janine (Melissa Jacques) is set to arrive in Weatherfield.

Speaking to TV Times magazine, Catherine Tyldesley said: “When Janine reveals who she is, it’s like a red rag to a bull for Ben.

“Janine tries to apologise on behalf of Megan; she is bewildered as to why this happened. But, sometimes, people grow up in normal, loving families and things go extremely wrong. That’s what Eva sees.

“She’s like, ‘It’s not Janine’s fault.’ Then you’ve got Maggie, who’s like, ‘Well, Megan has learnt this behaviour from someone!'”

Series producer Kate Brooks previously teased that there was still “bit of a journey to go” with the story, though confirmed that Megan would face justice.

“It’s about the family falling apart, but then kind of building themselves back up again as they try desperately to kind of repair the damage that Megan’s done,” Brooks revealed.

“Obviously, there are soap Gods, and as in soap God’s law, there’ll be some kind of retribution for Megan. She cannot get off of this scot-free. We will go down the proper channels.

“Whether it goes on to plan or not, I cannot say, but it goes down quite a very big path. Will will be quite badly affected by what he’s been through with Megan. It does go a bit dark as well.”
